Charlotte Tilbury

I have recently re-organized my makeup bag before my trip to Sweden, so I thought I’ll do a ‘what’s in my bag’ post. The makeup pouch is from Louis Vuitton 2015 Summer Collection limited edition. I really like the bright pink V graphic on it and its matching hot pink interior – it is very on trend and adds a playful touch to a rather classic style! The size is also quite compact, and I like the round shape (rather than a flat pouch) so it’s great for holding lots of makeup!

I have been wearing makeup for as long as I remember, but I’ve only started wearing lip liners recently! So I decided to get some Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liners as I have heard nothing but good reviews about them. Just like my lipstick colors, I picked up a red (Kiss N Tell) and a pink (Pink Venus), so they match most of my lip stick colors. Along with that, I have also got the Charlotte Tilbury Liquid Eye Pencil in Eye Cheat. It is the item that I have been looking for for years since Guerlain discontinued theirs, and I am glad that I finally found the replacement!

The Charlotte Tilbury Lip liners are ultra pigmented, and feel soft and silk smooth to apply. Even if you use it over your entire lips like I do sometimes, it does not dry them out. And best of all, if I apply a lipstick over the lip liners, they really help to extend the color wear time by hours. As I always apply my lipstick straight from the tube, the lip liners play an important role for creating a perfectly defined pout, and these liners are effortless to use for drawing a precise line. It is also easier for creating gradient lip with a lip liner. I just color the center of my lips with a lip liner first, then apply a semi-sheer lip stick all over the lips for a super fresh and cute Korean inspired gradient lips.

The Charlotte Tilbury Kiss N Tell is a true scarlet red, and the Pink Venus is a muted rosey pink that blends with most variations of pink lip stick colors that I own.

I use the Charlotte Tilbury Liquid Eye Pencil Eye Cheat as a multi-purpose concealing pencil. It’s an ultra pigmented flesh-colored pencil liner that has a creamy and soft consistency. When it is used for lining the waterline, it glides on like silk without tugging the skin nor does it irritate the eyes. I love using this on my waterline for a more fresh and awakened look. In addition, it also does a wonderful job for altering and concealing the lip lines or even a breakout as it is much more pigmented than a normal cream based concealer !

The Charlotte Tilbury Line is available at Nordstrom in the US, Selfridges in the UK, and I bought mine at NAP which ships internationally.

October Favorites

October 28, 2014

Whilst I am still in the process of putting together some more reviews for the other products I picked up from the Chanel Holiday 2014 collection, I thought I’ll quickly share some of my favorite products for the month of October before it ends. The monthly favorite posts are my all time favorite posts/videos to watch from other bloggers, and I don’t know why have I never done one?! So I am definitely going to incorporate this new series into my blogging schedule going forward.

1. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Palette – So glad I was able to get hold of this one from Net-A-Porter. I’ve been holding out on buying the individual blushes in the hope that they would release a palette one day, and my wish has been granted! It’s also available here in the US. Detailed review for this one as well as the highlighting palette is coming soon.

2. Chanel Camelia De Plumes Highlighting Powder – Every year Chanel releases an art piece of highlighter which is worthy of collection. This piece is stunning on its own, and also works great as a highlighter without looking frosty on me. Detailed review coming soon.

3. Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick Lost Cherry – Definitely one of my favorite purchases from Charlotte Tilbury (reviewed here). It’s longing lasting and can be worn for a polished look or sheer it out as a lip stain (the latter is my preferred method of wear).

4. Tiffany Key Necklace – Starting to wear and mix and match my jeweleries more now that my boy is bit older so he doesn’t pull them off me anymore 🙂

In addition to the KISSING Lipsticks (reviewed here) I also bought two new Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution lipsticks (Amazing Grace and Lost Cherry) from Net -A-Porter which I absolutely adore (also available at Selfridges). I bought these online without having read much reviews about them, so I really didn’t have a high expectation on them as matte lipsticks normally don’t work that well with my naturally dry lips. But these ones are phenomenal in terms of formulation, and the velvet finish is very modern and fashion-forward.

charlotte-tilbury-matte-revolution-kissing-lipsticks-swatch-review-1

The Matte Revolution Lipstick is ultra velvety smooth to apply without settling into the lines of the lips, and feels lightweight and non-drying on the lips. It’s very pigmented (more richer than the KISSING lipstick), and gives a very opaque and even finish with only one coat required. What appeals to me the most is that it is not a completely matte lipstick , and it provides more of a velvet finish with a semi-satin sheen that makes your lips appear more youthful than a typical matte lipstick does. Lasting power is about 4-5 hours on me. The only drawback to note is that it’s not a grab-and-go lipstick as you have to apply this in front of a mirror with some level of care for a clean look. Overall I am very impressed with the formulation of this lipstick. I can finally rock the matte lips look which is trending everywhere without the sacrifice of making my lips dry!

Amazing Grace looks like a dusty nude pink online, but in real life it is a dusty rosey pink that is a tad darker than I expected. Nevertheless the color is still beautiful and demure which would be flattering for all age groups.

Lost Cherry has completely wowed me. It is a fresh and bright cherry pink red that makes me wanting a backup! There is something about this color in the velvet finish makes it arresting.

Bottom Line: The Matte Revolution lipsticks are definitely one of my top picks (along with the Filmstar bronze and glow – reviewed here) for anyone who is new to the Charlotte Tilbury beauty line. They are now available at Net-A-Porter worldwide!

Net-A-Porter is currently offering free shipping again! So I took the opportunity and ordered some more Charlotte Tilbury makeup (also available at Nordstrom) which is really growing on me as a beauty brand in general. Today’s review is for the Charlotte Tilbury KISSING Lipsticks. I picked up the color Bitch Perfect and Coachella Coral which I believe are two of their best selling colors.

charlotte-tilbury-kissing-lipsticks-review-swatch-1charlotte-tilbury-kissing-lipsticks-bitch-perfect-swatch-review-2

The lipstick has a smooth and non slippery texture with a satin finish. It applies evenly and feels quite soft and weightless (not waxy) on the lips. It doesn’t enhance any dry patches and lines on the lips, and neither does it dry out the lips. Lasting power is about 3-4 hours on me with the brighter color lasting relatively longer. Both shades have good color pay-off – they are neither sheer not too intense which makes the formulation ideal for most  people.

Bitch perfect is a soft pink nude color on me, with a tiny tinge of nude brown undertone. It’s a flattering your-lips-but-better shade that still gives your lips a soft wash of color without washing you out, and is easy to pull off with any makeup look everyday. Perfect for those of you who love wearing nude lips , or anyone who is into natural looking lip colors.

Coachella Coral is my favorite out of the two. I have mentioned earlier that I am into the bright lip color phase, and this shade is right up my alley. It’s a lovely rosey pink coral color that just takes away any dullness from your complexion as soon as I have this color on the lips, and it brightens up my mood as well. The color is young yet sophisticated. I can wear it sheer for everyday use, or layer it up for a more bold and defined look.

What’s on my Wishlist

September 24, 2014

It’s been a busy week for me but I still have time to ‘window shop’ and put together my wishlist for this month!

1. Gucci Makeup!! – I am so excited about the new Gucci makeup line which is the talk of the town at the moment. The packaging speaks for glamour and luxury, and I sense that these following products will be mine very soon after browsing through the entire range over and over again.

– Gucci Lipstick Exposure and Hibiscus Thrill

Gucci Color Shadow Mono

Gucci Nail Lacquer

– Gucci Eyeshadow Quad Crystal Copper and Tuscan Storm

2. La Mer LE Illuminating Powder – The La Mer  loose powder is the best I have ever used (reviewed here) and it’s sad to see that it’s being discontinued. So thrilled to find this  limited edition illuminating powder set that makes me swoon.

3. La Mer Intensive Revitalizing Mask – If you have read my previous skincare posts, you would know that I am a big fan of La Mer. It’s a brand that you either hate, or you love and you will stick to their products for years and years, and I am the latter. I have seen visible and great results from their products, and I always wished for a more ‘affordable’ wash off type mask from La Mer. So my wish has been granted and I am definitely going to get this one! Also available in Australia now – here.

4. Cle de Peau Radiant Fluid foundation – Cle de Peau’s foundation is the crème de la crème for over a decade in the market. Very intrigued by their latest radiant foundation which sounds even better than the previous ones (reviewed here)! FYI Cle de Peau is currently offering a gift with purchase at Nordstrom.

5. Bottega Veneta Knot – Another amazing fragrance from this designer house! Been wearing the sample everyday and I am completely head over heels with the scent. If you love the Tom Ford’s Neroli Portofino you would love this one! Fresh, unique and sophisticated.

6. Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar On the Go – The latest Filmstar range is available on NAP now! I particularly love the color combination of this one.

7. Chloe Drew – Last but not least, a fashion item which is the IT bag at the moment that is spotted everywhere at fashion weeks.  I don’t normally crave for soft pink bags but somehow this bag just grows on me day by day. Such a delicate design with beautiful gold hardware that looks tres chic rather than overly cute. Sold out everywhere except here.

The Charlotte Tilbury  Filmstar Bronze and Glow Face Sculpt and Highlighter is the most highly raved product of her line and I am so glad that I bought it while it was still in stock as it completely lived up to my expectations. It is a very beautiful and harmonious highlighter and bronzer that would look great on various skin tones.

Both the bronzer and the highlighter feel very high quality – the powder is very finely milled, and it feels velvety soft and they apply silky smooth and easy to blend seamlessly.  The pigmentation is on the higher spectrum for me, so I have to use a very soft and fluffy brush to apply this product for a soft and subtle effect. The brush featured in the below picture is the CHIKUHODO GSN G2 that I highly recommend for a fool-proof contouring and highlighting application.

charlotte-tilbury-filmstar-bronze-and-glow-review-swatch-1

The bronzer is a neutral warm medium brown with micro shimmer that doesn’t look visible on the skin. I apply this product very light-handed under my cheekbones for a subtle contouring effect. As an Asian with fair skin tone (NC15-20) I don’t normally wear shimmery bronzers as a lot of them just look odd on my complexion (trust me I have tried a few and the feedback I received from friends were just hilarious!), whereas this one blends in with my natural skin tone very well, as it gives me a healthy glow look rather than “your tan went wrong” look.

The highlighter is just exceptionally beautiful. The shade is a pearly gold neutral champagne color (neither too warm nor too pink) with quite visible but refined shimmer on the skin (not frosty and glittery).  A little bit of this goes a long way and this is by far the most long lasting highlighter I have ever come across. Applying this product light-handed gives me a “supermodel glow” that looks more intense than what I would normally achieve with my regular highlighters that were made for a subtle brightening effect. This is a perfect product for highlighting the cheekbones for a more lifted and modelesque effect.

Charlotte Tilbury has been officially launched in the US as they are now available at Nordstrom online!  I know that many beauty enthusiasts are eager to dip their toes into the new makeup line, so I thought I’ll share my review for one of the best products from her line which is the Luxury Eye Shadow Palette in Dolce Vita. It’s absolutely stunning and I have been wearing it every single day since I had it!

charlotte-tilbury-luxury-eyeshadow-palette-the-dolce-vita-review-swatch-1

If you have seen this post,  you would know that I have ranted about the packaging of some of her products. Fortunately, this eyeshadow palette is quite weighty and feels sturdy in the hand. What’s missing from the palette is the mini size applicators! I don’t mind not having them, but it just means that I will not carry this palette with me in my makeup pouch for retouch as I don’t like to bring an extra set of eyeshadow brushes/applicators.

On to the stunning eye shadows themselves. Dolce Vita is a very bold and rich eye shadow palette – they are neutral colors yet quite unique and edgy that make you instantly drawn to them. The texture is silky smooth (except for the copper glitter shade) so it  applies evenly and easy to blend, and the pigmentation is ultra rich which reminded me of those ultra pigmented Nars eye shadows. A very gentle dip into the eye shadow is enough to do the whole eye for a natural look.

The colors look different depending on the angles you are looking at

charlotte-tilbury-luxury-eyeshadow-palette-the-dolce-vita-review-swatch-2

The colors are versatile all year around. The bronze and coppery colors are perfect for the warm weather, and they also have a hint of  burgundy and olive undertones which makes them great for fall as well. I didn’t think this would be an everyday palette for me, until I had them on and for some magic reason the colors just make my eyes appear brighter and more sparkly, and they look really flattering against my complexion.

Color Description:

Top Left –  Pinky beige champagne color (soft shimmer) that you can never have too many of.

Top Right – Copper with a burgundy undertone with silver shimmer in satin finish.

Bottom Left – Warm gold with visible glitters in a sparkly and metallic finish. This is my favorite shade as it is ‘dramatic’ but wearable. It feels quite creamy and dense for a glittery shade and it applies with no fall-out. I like to dab a little bit of this on to the center of the lid, and the metallic sheen of this shade is to just die for.

Bottom Right – Medium khaki brown with gold shimmer. It’s very pigmented so I like to use this shade on the outer-v gently as well as lining the lash line.

charlotte-tilbury-luxury-eyeshadow-palette-the-dolce-vita-review-swatch-3At a different angle that shows how beautiful the gold shade is!

charlotte-tilbury-luxury-eyeshadow-palette-the-dolce-vita-review-swatch-4

In my FOTD, I am wearing the champagne color as a base color, then blend the burgundy shade from the lash line in to the crease. The gold shade is added over the burgundy color for a pop of sparkle, and the khaki shade is added to the outer-v and along the lower lash line.

Other products used in the FOTD include

YSL Youth Liberator Serum Foundation (review coming soon)

Giorgio Armani Cheek Fabric 502 SKIN (reviewed here)

Chanel Le Volume Mascara

Guerlain KISSKISS Lip Colour 325 Rouge Kiss (reviewed here) – need to get more colors from this range, absolutely love it!

Bottom Line: If you want to try out the Charlotte Tilbury line, I highly recommend this beautiful eye shadow palette. You can find her new beauty line at Nordstrom online in the US, Selfridges in the UK, and Net-A-Porter world wide.
