YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain 12 Corail Fauve Review and Swatch

April 2, 2012

Most brands are releasing a range of long lasting lip wear this season. If I could only pick one product to buy, it’s gotta be the YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain. The swatch pictures of them have been floating around the blogsphere for a while. At first I wasn’t really intrigued as all the colors looked very bright and saturated, which is a little out of my comfort zone to wear everyday. Little did I know that as soon as I tried one on I became totally obsessed with the formulation. I bought not only one, but 4 of these..and I still can’t get enough of them!

Today I will only be reviewing the shade 12 Corail Fauve, which is a beautiful coral shade with a pinkish red undertone.

YSL Glossy Stain is a hybrid of lip gloss and stain. The texture almost feels watery-like upon application, and it takes about 30 seconds for the product to settle. Corail Fauve may look quite bright and bold in the swatch (as with most other shades of the line), but rest assured that the liquid formulation does give you a good control over the application. It dries down to a subtle natural pinkish red lip stain with a soft sheen as the first layer. Then as a second layer (in my pictures I dab a little more  on the center of my bottom lips as a second layer), it intensifies the color and instantly adds this translucent watery shine to the lips, and it makes the lips appear so moist and kissable.

The lasting power of it is phenomenal. It can last up to 4 -5 hours on my lips without much fading if I don’t eat/drink anything, and it still leaves a remnant after I eat.

The YSl Glossy Stain retails for $50 in Australia. I bought mine at David Jones. They are also available here and here in US.

Did you buy these in Aus? How much were they?

Thank you for the lip swatch! Mightily helpful, and Corail Fauve goes so well with your blush colour!

all colours look nice but I just can’t stand the smell. it also fades on me within minutes (after eating or drinking coffee for example). I am not a fan of these but the colour looks very nice on you! I wish it would work for me x

Hey Reika! I picked this same one up after Lisa Eldridge talked about it.. *fangirl alert* !!! Anyhow I LOVE this color but find that the little window on the bottle is quite misleading.. The pinky coral I expected actually ends up being a pinkish red on my lips.. It’s a very unique product and I plan on picking up more colors today, was thinking of No. 7 next and maybe a bright pink.. I think the trick to finding the true color of what is in the bottle is to swatch the color, buff it out to see the stain it leaves behind and then decide, no? What else did you pick up? Would live to see your reviews/recommendations! xoxo

I always felt all the swatches I have seen (including mine) are way too saturated than the true color on the lips, and you have made an excellent point Lakshmi! I will keep in mind to buff the color out in my swatches next time :-)
I also picked up 6 Camel Croisiere, 7 Corail Aquatique:, and 15 Rose Vinyl. 6 and 7 are everyday shades for me, and 15 is beautiful bright pink that I could not let it pass.
Since you are after a bright pink, take a look at 15 or 16 :-)
Kudos to you

Thanks for the recommendations Reika! I went to Sephora yesterday to check out some colors, especially No. 7, they were sold out of it and I think No. 6 Camel Croisiere is an online exclusive so like a good beauty enthusiast I came home and scoured the beauty blogosphere! So I ended up ordering No 7 and 15, I also think No. 13 Rose Tempera (currently a Nordstrom exclusive) is really pretty too, check it out in Karlasugar’s swatches..
Looking forward to your reviews and looks featuring these!
xx

That’s a lovely shade on you, so glossy & moist! I shudder to think how many more I will purchase if I am at an actual YSL counter to swatch to my heart’s content! :)
and many thanks for the links.

Thanks for the mention! :-) You look stunning as always and no. 12 is definitely on my ‘to buy’ list, along with 4 other shades that I’m lusting for. Picking all these up on my way to Berlin tonight. I can’t wait!

I got no. 12 too and it’s such a pretty colour! I got to swatch these in person when I was in Melbourne in Feb this year but I did not buy any since they cost a whopping 50 AUD each! I am glad I waited cos I only have to pay 2900 JPY from Narita Airport Duty Free:-) Next on my list would be no. 7 & 15!

I agree most of the colors are not for everyday use, but they are fabulous to use! I own three of them and I might revisit for more later:)

Hi Reika, I’ve stumbled upon your blog yesterday and came across this YSL lippy post which triggered me to go my local David Jones to try them and to my surprise they glide smoothly, not sticky, stays on and moisturising so I decided to get one. I got the #19 and then 2 hours later I decided to go back and got #12 as well! and that’s only after reading this ONE post of yours. I don’t even want to think what I’ll end up with if I continue reading some of your other posts.

I am a big Chanel fan and Estee Lauder, and these YSL lippies are my 1st products from them (besides their mascara which I absolutely adore). Kudos to you for posting such informative reviews about different products and I am thrilled to have stumbled upon your blog as you’re Asian and understand the “needs” (colours and all) of Asian skin :) yay!

Hi darl, thank you so much for the kind comment, it really made my day :-) Really good to know you are from Australia as well!
Lol I was exactly like you – I bought 3 more shades straight away after using number 12.
