What I packed for travelling – part 1 skincare products

September 3, 2012

Hi everyone, it’s a been a long time since my last post! And I miss you all! Thanks to all of you who dropped me a message/comment during my absence – I am well. I just came back from my 4 weeks holiday in Europe. I was in Paris and London most of the time enjoying the food and shopping there, and I also went to Vienna and Prague for the first time which I will probably share my shopping/traveling experiences in my future posts.

Today’s post is about the skincare products I packed for long-haul flights as well as for long vacations. I won’t say I am a light traveler as I tend to bring more clothes and shoes than I would wear. But when it comes to skincare and makeup I try to only bring the bare minimum as they can get heavy and take up a lot of space. I would normally start to ‘save’ the sample skincare of my ‘tested and trusted’ brands months before the trip so I would have enough to bring.

Products I used during long-haul flights – they are mainly for hydration

YSL cleansing water: I don’t wear makeup on flights , so I only needed a gentle cleanser (rinsing not required).

Caudalie Beauty Elixir - I then spray my face with this after cleansing – it’s very soothing and calming (great for flights!) for the skin and the mind :-)

SKII Repair C Serum – One of the best hydrating serums I’ve used so I always bring some samples of this with me for holiday use.

Jurlique Skin Balancing Face Oil: This is a second layer for hydration. I only use 2 drops of it and mix it with the Caudalie Beauty Elixir . The cabin air gets extremely dry so I like to supply some good oil to my skin.

Naruko Rose & Snow Fungus Hydrating Night Jelly: The last step is to lock in all the moisturizing products I applied. I personally prefer sleeping mask over heavy cream. I slather a thick layer of it all over my face and wash it off before landing. It really is a key product to keep my skin staying plumped and hydrated after a 12 hour long flight.

Elizabeth Arden 24 hours Cream (not in the picture)- I apply a thick layer of it on my lips every few hours. Don’t like the smell but it works.

Skincare Products I used during the Holiday:

My main goal is to keep my skin clear and moisturized, so I brought sample sized products mostly from La Mer and Shu Uemura. I have been using these brands for years so I know they will do a good job without breaking my skin.

Cleansers: Shu Cleansing Oil as the makeup remover, and Shiseido White Lucent Brightening Cleansing Foam as my daytime cleanser.

Toner: Caudalie Beauty Elixir

Exfoliate: La Mer the refining facial

Moisturizer: La Mer Moisturizing gel-cream and Shu Vitalizing Rejuvenating Cream

Eye Cream: La Mer Eye Balm Intense

Blemish Treatment: Peter Thomas Roth Acne Spot Treatment just in case I get blemishes.

I know I will be taking lots of pictures during the holiday so I also brought some Clarins products from the Facial lift line . The Clarins Shaping Facial Lift Serum (full-sized) is my go-to face product for anti-water retention, and along with the new Shaping Facial Lift Wrap Mask, they really help to keep the puffiness at bay and enhance the facial contour even after eating fatty and sodium rich foods everyday.

Oups how could I forget to mention sun protection for a summer holiday! I like to wear the Shiseido Anessa Perfect Essence Sunscreen when I’m frequently outdoors. It is SPF50+ and PA+++, so it offers the maximum sun protection and also ideal if you don’t want to get tanned. I also brought many packets of Silk Whitia Anti-Oxidation Whitening Mask which I used every few days for brightening and moisturizing purposes.

Pictures of these products were taken before the trip and I have managed to use all of them up by the end of trip! (Yay) I will be doing a part 2 for makeup.

Hope you are all well :-)

I hope you had a great time in europe Reika! Shopping in Paris and London is just amazing! I really like the Beauty Elixir a lot, I am waiting for a sample sized Clarins Shaping Facial Lift Serum in the mail (gift with purchase, haha). I really wonder how it’s gonna work for me. I had a lot of the silk whitia masks back in the days, now I am really enjoying some japanese face masks. I am always very happy when I use something up, haha.

Hi Claire I really love the Clarins shaping facial lift serum – it really works for me. The key is to use the serum with Clarins’ massaging technique.
Me too, I alternate between silk whitia and japanese face masks!

Thank you for the advice – I definetly will try it out with the massage, I just hope my skin won’t eat up the whole serum too fast, haha.

I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Vienna and Prague. I’ve never been to Prague, but I will love to go one day. It’s just a stone throw away from me, so it’ll be one of my long-weekend trips. And Vienna is such a beautiful city. Words just can’t describe it. I can’t wait for your travel pictures! And hope the jetlag is not too painful.

Yes Prague is truly one the most beautiful cities in the world..the entire city just looks like a vintage painting.
Vienna is beautiful too, I have finally fulfilled my dream and visited Princess Sisi Palace *yay*!

Welcome back, traveler! You’ve been missed. We’re all looking forward to reading more about your trip and any wonderful products you picked up along the way. I recently spent three weeks in Europe during the Olympics and didn’t make one single beauty purchase. Can you believe that?!? Anyway, it’s good to have you back.

Eileen I was in Europe during the Olympics too and I have never seen Europe being that crowded!
Guess what I can! And I am not surprised. There are just so many things to do/see and there are other “bigger” things to buy in Europe so beauty purchases can take a backseat *wink wink*

O Maria thanks for letting me know! I love to hear what have you bought! I am completely addicted to the Ash wedges lately..they look so stylish but comfy. I actually lived in them during my entire holiday..the only downside is they get very hot in summer though..
So do you love them?

Am on a skincare kick lately, so your post is super helpful!!!

Do you use any beauty gadgets Rei? (Clarisonic, Hitachi Face/Hada Crie?)

Yes I have used something very similar to Hada Crie (by a different brand though but not cheap either, I think I paid $200 for it). And I didn’t feel it made any difference to my skin so I stopped. Wouldn’t recommend hehe!

Hey Reika!! How very exciting your holiday sounds, I’m sure you had a great time! :) can’t wait to see pictures and hear about your travels in future posts! Your skin care packing looks impeccable, how clever of you to include something to counteract the salty/fatty foods! Now I’m really eager to see what makeup you packed, but when in Paris, it might actually make sense to pack *very* light so then you *have* to go shopping ;)
xoxo
PS: Please join Twitter! It would be so much fun to be able to talk to you there and share pics etc. :)

I admire you to be very practical even you always aim for best result!!! Some products you mentioned caught my eyes like caudalie elixir!!!! And of course,Silk Whitia masks xD

Shu cleansing oil in green is your HG?my friend raves about it. Im still testing History of Whoo and might try Ohui sun cream remover….not sure whether normal cleansing oil is sufficient to remove foundation/BB cream :/

Reply

Reika September 25, 2012 at 11:37 am

Hi Annie, my HG cleanser to remove makeup (for now) is by Eve Lom. Shu Cleansing Oil is quick to use and very effective to remove stubborn makeup such as BB cream or anything waterproof. But I always feel there is a thin layer of residue left on my face after rinsing, so I always need a second cleanser to wash my face again.
Oh I love history of whoo!

Reply

Annie September 26, 2012 at 8:57 pm

YOu should try it!!!! Its really good at removing makeup!! I would think whoo cleansing oil comes closest to my HG one (n__n)

Reika September 29, 2012 at 10:54 am

I will. My friend is going to Korea soon, and I am going to give her a big shopping list of history of whoo products lol

:D I can see Ohui The First and Whoo will become your new LOVE!!!!
I also love SU:M37 Losec! They got plenty of good sets during this Thanksgiving. October sets included JaSaeng essence in 3rd anniversary with big size and floral pattern for special edition!! 75ml instead of 45ml! Such a grab!!! And they are so generous with gift sets! Don’t miss this opportunity :D
