Today’s review is for my current favorite fragrance – The CHANEL CHANCE Eau VIVE . I have never been a big fan of Chanel’s classic fragrances such as the No5, No19, Coco Chanel etc as I feel they smell a bit ‘too old fashioned’ on me. However their recent additions including the BEIGE (reviewed here) and MISIA from the Les Exclusive line, and Coco Noir have thoroughly impressed me. They are alluring and seductive with a modern take that would appeal to the younger women. On a side note, the CHANEL BLEU is my DH’s favorite perfume at the moment!

CHANCE Eau VIVE caught my attention after I was randomly sampling a lot of fragrances at the counter. This one stood out and connected with me, and I knew this would be a lovely choice. For days I could not forget about it so I had to get one for myself.

This perfume was designed by Olivier Polge, which was his second creation after he took the helm from his famous perfumer father Jacques Polge. A true perfumer is regarded as an artist in France and is also referred to as ‘The Nose’. Jacques Polge is a legendary name in the perfumery industry. He has created an array of timeless fragrances for Chanel throughout his career since 1978. This year he had retired and his son Olivier Polge became the newly appointed Chanel Fragrance creator to succeed his father. His first creation for Chanel is MISIA (another gorgeous scent),  and the Eau VIVE is his latest  release that is exactly what I would expect from a second generation of perfumer. It is elegant and posh with a playful and modern twist. VIVE has notes of grapefruit, blood orange, jasmine, cedar and iris notes. On me it smells floral (not sugary), fresh with dominant zesty notes as a top note. Once it starts to dry down, it becomes more clean and slightly woody and still floral. I adore both – it works well with my body temperature and goes well with my day-to-day style. It is a warm and fresh scent that can be worn all year round, and 4-5 spritz last about 5-6 hours on me.

I bought mine here online in Australia.

I am not the greatest reviewer for fragrances, though I buy a lot and I wear perfume everyday I don’t talk about it that much on my blog. One of my recent purchases was the exclusive Chanel Beige perfume which I am completely in love with. I was instantly drawn to its elegant packaging, and this is by far the most exquisite masterpiece of fragrance Chanel has ever made.

It has notes of white floral (Hawthorn, Freesia and Frangipani) with honey. Here is the description from Chanel which I really like:

“A stunning blend of white petals and yellow gold…in other words, a breath of beige.”

On me (I have quite a low body temperature), it smells clean; pretty and floral that is not overly sweet in a complex way. There are a gazillion of floral fragrances, but Chanel Beige is different from the norm. It has a refined elegance and smoothness that is unique enough to catch people’s attention.  I am at this age where I stay away from anything that makes me smell like candies, teas or basils, and the Chanel Beige will probably be my signature scent for the next couple of years. It is an ‘expensive’ and classy scent, but on the other hand, it is soft, warm and modern. It is well suited to all occasions all year round.  We often associate a fragrance with our fond memories, and I would say Chanel Beige reminds me of having myself wrapped in a cashmere throw, and sipping coffee on a beautiful street in Paris. Lasting power is about 8 hours on me.

Highly recommend! I bought mine at the Chanel Makeup Boutique, and it is exclusive to Chanel online.

Beauty Wishlist

July 27, 2014

My current beauty wishlist include some neutral eye shadow palettes, a foundation and some fragrances which are the 3 main things I am obsessed with lately. The most exciting product has to be the new Tom Ford’s Traceless Perfecting Foundation that has just been released – I haven’t bought any Tom Ford’s foundations yet because I was eagerly awaiting for this one! My second must purchase item is the Bottega Veneta Essence Aromatica as my all time favorite fragrance is the Bottega Veneta Eau De Parfume, and this lighter and fresher version of it sounds alluring!

Hi everyone, happy weekend! Today I have a rather unusual product to review – The Balenciaga Florabotanica Eau de Parfum Spray. I hardly review fragrances as I am really not that great describing scents, but I like this one very much so I thought I’ll share my two cents with you.

“Balenciaga Florabotanica is inspired by the woman who is beautiful but dangerous like many rare botanical flowers. This new scent twists Turkish rose with hemp and vetiver roots for an addictive trail”.

A lot of floral fragrances can smell too sweet for me, but this one is very unique, complex yet feminine. I didn’t think it was my type of scent when I first sampled it, but it grew on me day to day. So I bought the 100ml (3.4oz) bottle in the end! I would describe the first note as a fresh floral scent with a hint of violet, leaf and mint. Once it dries down, the main note becomes a powdery woody scent (vetiver) – it’s clean, sexy and slightly floral. If my ordinary description does not tick your fancy, I urge you to give it a try at a shop if you get a chance. It is such a distinctive scent! It lasts about 8-10 hours on me with 4 and 5 sprays.

This Balenciaga makeup pouch was a gift with purchase

Balenciaga-Floralbotanica-Eau-de-Parfurm-Spray-review-makeup-pouchI bought mine at David Jones for AUD$155. You can also get this at Neiman Marcus in the US.

By Terry TEINT DE ROSE – the most luxurious primer made of premium rose extract and provides a golden rosey glow to the skin.

Duchess Marden Skincare Line - Everything from this natural brand is made of pure Damascena Roses. The textures, scents and sensations are delightful and sensuous.

Diptyque ROSES Candle – Diptyque makes my favorite candles. I love most of their scents and ROSES makes my house smell like heaven.

Jo Malone Red Roses Room Spray - Another clean and relaxing rosey scent. I like to lightly spray my room every night before I go to bed which guarantees a good nights sleep :-)

One of my readers asked me what are my favorite perfumes. It is quite hard for me to pick because my preference for fragrances changes in different seasons – I wear totally different perfumes in winter time to summer time .

In this post I am just going to show my all time favorite classic perfumes. They  have been around for a long time – with a new perfume being released every week I have yet to find any that could replace them. I will always re-buy them if they run out.

I don’t have a preference for a particular scent,  the ones I picked fall into different categories:

STEP OUT OF SHOWER - does it make sense? I am obsessed with this scent though!

Amazing Grace by Philosophy: My top pick. I love it so much I even bought a roller version of it so I can carry it with me everywhere.

Banana Republic: It is also beautiful, definitely good value for money.

VANILLA – with a hint of sweet note

They are my “dating” perfumes, the kind of scent guys are attracted to. I use to wear them religiously when I was dating my bf (now hubby) haha. He loves them

Addict by Dior

Armani Code by Giorgio Armani

Light Blue by Dolce & Gabbana – citrusy, perfect for summer.

Daisy by Marc Jacobs – Jasminey, although it is such a common scent there is something about this one that makes it so appealing to me. I am pretty sure my next perfume purchase will be the Eau So Fresh Daisy by Marc Jacobs

NEROLI / ORANGE BLOSSOM – I am totally crazy about this scent right now.

Orange Blossom by Jo Malone – the best one in the market! To me  it smells the most pure out of all the orange blossoms in the market.

Neroli by Laura Mercier – this one is not in my all time favorite fragrances list. I don’t like it as much as Jo Malone’s – it is more warm than JM so I reach for this one more in Winter.

On a side note,  I like to layer Orange Blossom with French Lime Blossom or Nectarine Blossom and Honey by Jo Malone – they combined into the most unique and captivating scent.
