Jo Malone

A quick skincare post for the transition season from Fall to Winter. As always moisturizing is the core of my routine. I opted for some richer face products to cater for my very dry and sensitive skin in this weather. This post only covers the basic moisturizing products that I use daily, and I combine these products with a lot of other skincare products accordingly that target at specific skin conditions such as pigmentation, brightening, anti aging etc.

La Mer The Radiant Infusion – is the most hydrating serum-like lotion I have ever used. It instantly re-hydrates and plumps up the skin upon application without the tackiness, and helps to improve the luminosity of the skin overnight.  And on a lazy day, I can get away with only using this lotion as it keeps my skin supple and hydrated for many hours. Not happy that this product is being discontinued, so next on my radar is the La Mer The Treatment Lotion!

Decleor Aromessence Angelique Nourishing Serum – I am a big fan of face oil, and after trialing tons of new oils I decided to go back to the old but good Decleor. Love the pure essential oil smell, as it helps to sooth and wind down the day for me. It does a great job for moisturizing and nourishing my dry skin for the whole day with only a drop, and I wake up with a glow. If you like the foundation to appear more dewy and radiant on the skin, this oil also serves as a good base.

Trilogy Organic Rosehip Oil – Every model raves about rosehip oil – often found in affordable organic beauty brands. The Trilogy oil was completely sold out in UK after The Duchess of Cambridge credited her ultra radiant complexion to this oil upon receiving a bottle during her tour to New Zealand. I am quite neutral about it, as it does help to moisturize the skin but the oil is not as finely milled as the expensive ones so it tends to sit on top of the skin. Otherwise it is a lovely and affordable oil  to use for both the face and the body, and I like rubbing a thick layer on the scar areas with the use of derma roller and I have seen a great improvement.

FRESH Creme Ancienne Anti Aging Treatment – I have had the FRESH cream for over a year now and I am finally using it up! It is ultra thick, rich and heavy. It has a wax-like texture and you only need less than a pea size of this cream for the whole face. It feels a little heavy on the face, and forms an invisible barrier on the skin that traps the moisture for the whole day, and protects your skin from external hazards. This would be the perfect cream for very dry skin types, or if you live in an extreme cold weather condition. Otherwise it would be way too rich and may clog your pores. A lot of people compare this cream to the Creme de la Mer, but I personally prefer the latter for everyday use.

Jo Malone Vitamin E Gel (reviewed here) – This is my second tub – a multi-purpose luxurious vitamin E balm that can be mixed with other moisturizers that deeply nourishes and helps to repair the skin.  It can also be used as a lip balm and mixed with other products for a makeup base. This gel is more heavy duty than the face oil, and I normally go for this one at night if I want a boost of moisture and radiance the next day.

Along with the Jo Malone Osmanthus Blossom Cologne (reviewed here), I also picked up the Jo Malone Vitamin E Gel at the counter recently. It was a spur of the moment decision. I was a little choked at the price for such a tiny pot of product, but my gut feeling led me to purchase it, and the texture is just too good to be passed!

After using it for a few weeks, I absolutely love this product. It is one of the best multi-purpose balms that can be used anywhere – like a little miracle pot!

What is it:

Rich and intensive Vitamin E gel is a nourishing moisturizer for dry and dehydrated skin, and it can be combined with other products to create multiple benefits for the face, hands and feet. It also works as a barrier to help protect the skin against further environmental damage.

The texture is a cross between balm and gel. It feels very emollient, but compared to the other balms such as the Elizabeth Arden’s 24 hours protector, this is much more lightweight and spreadable. It sinks into your skin when used sparingly. The product contains lots of nourishing oil such as wheat germ oil, avocado oil, sweet almond oil so it also smells much better than the awful 24 hours protector, though it still has a hint of herbal scent.

As a face moisturizer:

If your normal moisturizer doesn’t do much for  your dry and dehydrated skin, instead of upgrading to a heavier cream, all you need is to mix a tiny bit of this Vitamin E gel with your moisturizer at night. I normally warm the entire product in my palms then pat it on my face and neck. My skin feels instantly moisturized and soothed, and I am always amazed at how baby-soft and moisturized my skin is the next day.  Since it is extremley nourishing, I only use this product for my face 3 times a week. You can adjust the amount to be mixed based on your skin and weather condition. I personally think this is a must-have product for anyone who travels a lot, as it will work its wonders to protect your skin from the dry air during flights.

As a body moisturizer:

This is highly recommended by the Jo Malone SA. She makes her own body moistruizer by mixing a little bit of this with a cheapie body cream such as Nivea.

As a lip balm:

Very expensive for a lip balm, but all you need is tiny a little bit and it guarantees to heal your dry and chapped lips! If you already like the Jo Malone Vitamin E Lip Conditioner which is not cheap either, this is a more intense and an economical product.

As an eye gel:

The Jo Malone SA also recommended that this product can be used as an intensive eye gel. I personally wouldn’t use it on my eyes as I feel it is way too heavy, but it might be the right product for more mature and aged skin.

Burns, cuts and bites:

This product heals bites and relives itchiness overnight, and it also speeds up the healing process for any burns and cuts.

Bottom Line: A luxurious intensive multi-purpose savior for anyone with dry skin. It is expensive, but the whole pot will last me more than a year as it is highly concentrated and emollient. The fact that it is from is my favorite brand of Jo Malone is also a bonus 🙂

Jo Malone Vitamin E Gel is available here in the US, and here in the UK. I bought mine at David Jones for AUD$170 for 30ml of product.

Loving Right Now

June 22, 2013

JCREW Cashmere: I love wearing cashmere, particular from JCREW. There is nothing more cosy and luxurious than the feel of pure soft Italian cashmere brushing against your skin. My favorite style from JCREW is the BOYFRIEND Cashmere Sweater which is slightly over-sized with a straight slouchy fit and I just love the effortless look. It looks great with everything such as a pair of skinny/boyfriend jeans, or chinos for spring and summer. I have them in the color of Navy and Hthr Neon Pink, and there is few more colors on the way as JCREW is currently doing a 20% OFF with code 20INSIDER for international orders, and 25% OFF with code NEWSTYLE for US orders!

Stella McCartney Sunglasses (bought here): Perfect size, perfect style, and great for everyday wear.

Jo Malone Osmanthus Blossom (available here): I am a big fan of Jo Malone fragrance, and this new LE cologne is everything that I expected . It is a delicate floral scent with a top note of osmanthus that smells pure, clean and fresh.  If you love wild bluebell, orange blossom, red roses, I can guarantee you would love this one!

Estee Lauder Cyber White Brilliant Cells Brightening UV Protector SPF 50+ (bought here): The Japanese are known for their ultra light weight and water resistant sunscreen, and to get a fair share of the Asian market, this year the major Western beauty houses such as Dior, Chanel, Estee Lauder etc have really stepped up the plate and released some great sun protection products exclusive to the Asian market. The newly improved formula has a significantly lighter texture, more absorbent, leaves no white cast, and they are more reminiscent of a makeup primer than the traditional face sunscreen.  I love the Estee Lauder because it works great for my dry skin. It is hydrating without the greasy feeling and gives a lovely dewy finish. I normally skip my makeup primer if I wear this one underneath the foundation.

My Favorite Perfumes

May 28, 2011

One of my readers asked me what are my favorite perfumes. It is quite hard for me to pick because my preference for fragrances changes in different seasons – I wear totally different perfumes in winter time to summer time .

In this post I am just going to show my all time favorite classic perfumes. They  have been around for a long time – with a new perfume being released every week I have yet to find any that could replace them. I will always re-buy them if they run out.

perfumes

I don’t have a preference for a particular scent,  the ones I picked fall into different categories:

STEP OUT OF SHOWER – does it make sense? I am obsessed with this scent though!

Amazing Grace by Philosophy: My top pick. I love it so much I even bought a roller version of it so I can carry it with me everywhere.

Banana Republic: It is also beautiful, definitely good value for money.

VANILLA – with a hint of sweet note

They are my “dating” perfumes, the kind of scent guys are attracted to. I use to wear them religiously when I was dating my bf (now hubby) haha. He loves them

Addict by Dior

Armani Code by Giorgio Armani

CITRUS AND JASMINE

Light Blue by Dolce & Gabbana – citrusy, perfect for summer.

Daisy by Marc Jacobs – Jasminey, although it is such a common scent there is something about this one that makes it so appealing to me. I am pretty sure my next perfume purchase will be the Eau So Fresh Daisy by Marc Jacobs

NEROLI / ORANGE BLOSSOM – I am totally crazy about this scent right now.

Orange Blossom by Jo Malone – the best one in the market! To me  it smells the most pure out of all the orange blossoms in the market.

Neroli by Laura Mercier – this one is not in my all time favorite fragrances list. I don’t like it as much as Jo Malone’s – it is more warm than JM so I reach for this one more in Winter.

On a side note,  I like to layer Orange Blossom with French Lime Blossom or Nectarine Blossom and Honey by Jo Malone – they combined into the most unique and captivating scent.
