Charlotte Tilbury

Following the review of the Pat McGrath Bronze Seduction Palette which has just been restocked, here is another post for a stunning eyeshadow palette that I acquired recently – the Charlotte Tilbury Supersonic Girl Eyeshadow Palette Holiday 2018 (Limited edition). Her beauty line is becoming a cult beauty brand lately with many of her limited edition products literally sold out within days. I have missed some products in the past as I was indecisive and being too late and I am still regretting it!  So this time around I made sure I was quick enough to get hold of this stunning palette. I know that it is already sold out in many countries, luckily there are still stocks available in Australia!

charlotte-tilbury-eyeshadow-palette-supersonic-girl-review-swatch

The actual palette is even more gorgeous than I had anticipated. The color combination with the shimmer and the right amount of sparkle is totally captivating. This palette is on the ‘shiny side’, as all 4 eyeshadows are either shimmery or glittery. The color payoff of this palette is medium with visible shimmer or specks of glitters. All colors apply smoothly and blend beautifully. As with most glittery shades, you might experience a little fall out if you apply it heavily with a brush. As for me, I prefer the dabbing method for the sparkly colors just on to the center of the lid to avoid the fallout. Overall, the Supersonic Girl makes such a versatile eyeshadow palette that is beautiful yet wearable for every day. Both the colors and finishes fit perfectly with the current eye makeup trend – they are elegant and fun to wear!

I am on a mission to track down every single hot lip color at the moment. My latest acquisition is the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Liquid Lipstick Dangerous Liaison – it is so beautiful that it literally took my breath away when I first applied it. It is a hugely popular shade amongst beauty lovers worldwide, and it’s been sold out for a very long time but it’s just been restocked!

charlotte-tilbury-hollywood-lips-liquid-lipstick-dangerous-liaison-review-swatch

I am trying to make all of my lip swatch posts short and sweet. Overall Dangerous Liaison is a stunning neutral rusty red color with a hint of rose. If you wear it in full coverage, the rose undertone tends to show up more (as you can see on Charlotte Tilbury’s swatch). I love wearing it sheer, so it looks more warm and rusty and gives a nice fall and edgy retro look. The texture is also lovely for dry lips – goes on creamy smooth and settles down to a matte finish without drying the lips over time. Just a tiny teeny bit of the color is enough for the whole lips.

The Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Liquid Lipstick can be found here in the US. For worldwide shipping, you can check the stock on Selfridges (where I bought it from), Net-A-Porter, BeautyLish, and CultBeauty. I think my swatch is very close to what I see on my lips in real life. On each website mentioned here, the swatch varies by a small degree, and I would say NAP has the most accurate presentation of the color for me.

I took a mini break from blogging as I just felt exhausted from everything, and after my two weeks of holiday in Japan, I am mentally re-charged again to get back to my usual routine of life including my favorite blogging. This review is long overdue, as I have had the Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips for a while. I ordered 5 amazing beautiful shades on Net-A-Porter based on these online swatches  (big thumbs up for the swatches on her website as they are always accurate and reliable). It was a 100% successful order for me,  as every color is what I expected and they all wear so beautifully that I struggle to pick a favorite!

Left to Right: Miranda May; Super Cindy; Kidman Kiss; Secret Salma; Hot Emily

Charlotte has several lines of lip colors, and the Matte Revolution (reviewed here) is the best for the texture and finish in my opinion. The HOT Lips lipstick range was born under the collaborations with 12 female celebrities (hence all lipstick shades are named after them), and it has the formula as the matte revolution line.  It gives a velvety matte finish without making the lips look and feel dry, and the color stays put for 5-6 hours depending on the color.  It applies silky smooth and streak-free, and it has a lovely buttery but non-slippery consistency so it is easy to blend without feathering. It makes the lips feel soft and plump for a youthful look. Overall as a matte lipstick, this is one of the best formulas you can find in the market.

As usual, I picked up some nude, MLBB and red and pink lip colors. All the colors are very effortless and are great for everyday wear, and they go with all sorts of makeup looks and occasions.

Kidman Kiss – is a medium peachy-pink nude. The color is similar to my natural lip color so it doesn’t wash me out and is a such an easy to wear elegant color for a natural look.

Super Cindy – is a true medium muted nude color. It has the perfect balance of nude and dusty pink that instantly makes your lips look more sultry and edgy. One of the IT shade to get your hands on now!

Secret Salma – is a true medium MLBB rosey pink. This is a must have color that most girls can’t get enough of including myself!

Hot Emily – is a coral red that is just as pretty and hot and takes your breath away like the real person. Dab it to the center for a gradient look that gives a more youthful and girly appearance.

Miranda May – I would say this is a very Miranda Kerr color as she always wears a similar lip color in pictures. It is a very pretty and friendly pink coral that would look flattering on most girls, and it instantly brightens up your complexion.

Today I have a super amazing product that I’d like to share – the Charlotte Tilbury Dry sheet Face Mask. I have had a fair share in face masks but this dry mask is like nothing I have tried before! Yes the entire paper mask is dry and is full of vitamins and peptides that deeply hydrates and lift the skin. The most amazing factor is that you can re-use it for up to 3 times.

charlotte-tilbury-dry-sheet-face-mask-review-2

Each paper mask retails for $22 (AUD$35).  At first, I thought it is quite overpriced for a single mask, and it came to a surprise to me that it can be re-used 3 times based on the instructions, which makes the ‘cost per use’ quite reasonable for a high-end skincare product. The active ingredients include vitamins, floral extracts, peptides, oils and butters.

charlotte-tilbury-dry-sheet-face-mask-review

The sheet mask (which is completely dry) is made of plush velvety fabric. It is soft, stretchable and thicker than the traditional paper masks. The design of the mask is phenomenal – designed in a way to lift your entire face and chin. It comes with 4 hooks, to be hooked behind your ears. The size of the mask is quite small, and I believe it is intentional as you need to stretch then lift the mask up while placing the hooks behind the ears, so your face is completely vacuum wrapped and lifted. Immediately you feel the skin is tightened (imagine having the corset on the waist) when you have the mask on.

Here is the picture I found on Charlotte Tilbury site

charlotte-tilbury-dry-sheet-face-mask-review-3

On me!

charlotte-tilbury-dry-sheet-face-mask-review-4

Result

Since it’s a dry mask, you don’t feel your skin is being ‘water replenished’ during the application. Other than feeling the warmth and the lift, I actually had doubt whether the mask was doing anything while I had the mask on. After the mask is removed (15 to 20 minutes), the skin has been ‘miraculously’ moisturized and nourished. There is a glow on the face, the skin feels emollient and supple with a thin coat of the product from the mask. Puffiness is reduced, and the face shape appears slimmer and lifted for a youthful v-shape contour temporarily.

Bottom Line

A miracle and easy to use mask as it does not feel wet with liquid dripping and messing up the hair. It gives an instant lift and a boost of moisture and radiance. Perfect for prepping your skin before makeup for any important events. It is most suitable for ageing and dry skin, or anyone who needs a quick skin fix. If you have combo to oily but dehydrated skin, I think a traditional wet mask would work better for hydration only. One single sheet retails for USD$22 ($AUD35), or a box of four for $88 (AUD$126) for a better value.

Monthly Favorites

March 27, 2017

I can’t believe it’s nearly the end of March as I haven’t updated my blog as I planned. I have been having rounds of flu lately so not in the perfect condition for swatching new products, but I thought I’d share some of my favorite and most-used products of the month.

MAKEUP

1. I’ve been using the Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette Seductive Beauty almost every day ever since I got my hands on it. Thumbs up for its practicality and easy to wear, and they just look flattering without looking like you have too much makeup on. Detailed review for both palettes here.

2. My skin has been looking ok lately, so I am opting for a very natural foundation. The Tom Ford Traceless Foundation gives the dewiest and most natural finish that is completely traceless as the name suggests. The low-down is that the coverage is very sheer and the ultra dewiness will not work for oily skin. The highlight is that it is very hydrating for dry and aging skin, and you can easily fake the most glowing editorial-like complexion with this foundation! FYI my shade is Albaster that is similar to NC15-20.

3. The exclusive Chanel Le Blanc Compact Foundation is one of the best the powder foundations I have used for its buttery texture, good coverage, and feels quite moisturizing for a powder-based foundation. Detailed review here.

4. Switching to bright coral lips lately after being on brown lips for months! My favorites are the MAC Retro Matte Rich & Restless (swatched here) and Kat Von D Liquid Lipstick Berlin (swatched here).

SKINCARE & HAIRCARE

5. I prefer washing powder more than paste these days, and the Kose Sekkisei White Powder Washing Powder forms into the most creamy lather that deeply cleans and gently exfoliates your skin. It also helps to clarify and brighten your skin after each wash that you can see the difference.

6. I have been resisting Oribe haircare line for a while as it’s a very expensive line and I knew I would be loving it. Finally bought the Oribe Signature Conditioner travel-sized to give it a try when I was on holiday and I was blown away! It’s not easy to transform my overly processed dry hair to the best hair condition, and this conditioner did it after only 1 wash! Will definitely be getting the full-size set soon.

LIFESTYLE

7. I am a big fan of home fragrance, and as a result, I am obsessed with Diptyque. I have pretty much used most of their home fragrances, and my all time favorite will always be the Baies. I have it in Candle, Room Spray as well as the Scented Oval (reviewed here)!

8. Received a lot of questions about this beautiful crystal and gold coaster when I posted it on my instagram lately. They are from the brand RABLABS (I bought it here and also available here worldwide). They are beyond beautiful in real life when it gleams under different angles, and make your vanity/coffee table instantly more expensive and glamourous!

9. Here is another accessory that I have been wearing a lot. The Celine Shadows Flattop sunglasses that is seen on every fashionista! Currently on sale at 40% off here!

Following on from the sell-out success of the Instant Look in Palette -Natural Beauty from last year which I absolutely adore, Charlotte Tilbury has recently released another Instant Look in a Palette – Seductive Beauty (Limited Edition). The concepts are the same – an easy and quick to use all-in-one palette for the whole face for women of all age groups. The Seductive Beauty offers more dramatic coloring than Natural Beauty, with slightly darker colors for the eye shadows and the blushes, so it can transform your look from day to night.

The new palette is of the same high quality as the previous release. It contains 3 eyeshadows, 2 blushes, 1 bronzer and a face highlighter – in harmonious complementary colors.  The palette is made in Italy, and all products are of decent sizes, so you won’t have the problem of accidently running into other colors with a brush. The powders are luxurious – they are finely milled and apply silky smooth and blend seamlessly without any fallout.

If there is one makeup item that I consistently collect, it has to be the Chanel Highlighter! Most recently, Chanel has done it again with another elegant piece Camelia De Chanel Illuminating Powder that is both aesthetically pleasing and flattering to use as an everyday product that adds a soft glow. The highlighter is exclusive to the Chanel online and the makeup boutique stores.

camelia-de-chanel-illuminating-highlighting-powder-2016-2017-review-swatch camelia-de-chanel-illuminating-highlighting-powder-2016-2017-review-swatch-2

This highlighter is embossed with Chanel’s iconic symbol – the camellia, presented in a special edition red Les Beige case. The quality of this highlighter is on par with the previous releases. It has a creamy and velvety texture, and the powder is extremely finely milled to give a second-skin effect that blends in seamlessly. The best thing with the highlighter is that it has a neutral champagne color that would look flattering on most complexions, and you can also use it as eyeshadow base color. It’s neither too warm nor too silvery, and it blends in perfectly with my complexion without adding much color to it.  It gives a silky satin finish, with a gentle sweep across the high points of the face, it reflects the light softly and adds a luminous glow with a hint of dewiness that is just beautiful but not too overly done.

The Charlotte Tilbury Film Noir Nights Makeup Kit is taking festive makeup to another level. Every holiday season we have seen all the brands offer pretty gift sets to attract more customers, but I have never seen such a beautiful and unique gift box with vintage Hollywood glamor. The set includes Charlotte Tilbury’s best-seller Rock N Kohl eyeliner in Bedroom Black and her latest LE matte revolution lipstick Opium Noir.  Just for the lipstick which is exclusive to this set and the box (which I will keep), it is worthwhile getting the set in my opinion.

charlotte-tilbury-film-noir-nights-makeup-kit-eyeliner-bedroom-black-matte-revoluation-lipstick-opium-noir-review-swatch-1 charlotte-tilbury-film-noir-nights-makeup-kit-eyeliner-bedroom-black-matte-revoluation-lipstick-opium-noir-review-swatch

The presentation of the box is inspired by the vintage vanity mirror. The box lights up upon opening, with 6 mini lights around the mirror. The mirror is also decent sized which is enough to show the whole face, and with the bright light, it makes it such a pro makeup mirror that gives you a very clear view of your makeup even in the dark!

The matte revolution lipstick from CT is one of my favorite matte formulas amongst all the brands. It glides on silky smooth, even and mostly importantly non-drying. It gives a matte finish with a hint of sheen. The color Opium Noir (LE) from this set is blowing me away. I thought it would look too vampy on me when I saw it from the tube, but once it’s applied, it translates to the most flattering vampy red with an edge. The beauty of this color is that it makes a statement but it is also flattering and wearable. I am completely obsessed with this color!

The Rock N Kohl Eyeliner in Bedroom Black is a jet black eye liner that glides on silky smooth, creamy and doesn’t tug the delicate skin. The texture is creamy enough for smudging for creating smokey eyes, and once it’s set, the color stays put all day without smudging. It is also super pigmented so one swipe gives a clean and sharp line. Overall I can’t stop gushing about the formula of this eyeliner, and I do wish they have it in more brown and coppery colors!
