SKII Treatment Essence VS SUISSE PROGRAMME Cellular Boosting Solution

October 20, 2011

I go through tons of skincare products and there is only a handful of products that I will repurchase. The SKII Treatment Essence is one of them and I have been using it on and off for years. Lately I am trialing the SUISSE PROGRAMME Cellular Boosting Solution. It is a relatively new product and is being marketed as an all purpose lightweight essence and costs the same as SKII. It gained its popularity quickly and has been receiving great feedback so it’s definitely giving the SKII’s treatment essence a run for its  money.

SKII Treatment Essence

This product has been featured in numerous magazines and beauty blogs, so I don’t want to do another detailed review to bore you. Basically it is an essence in water consistency. It can be used as a toner, or serum or a step in between. It contains 98% of SKII’s signature ingredient – Pitera. Although there has been some controversy on the effect of Pitera, this product has been around in the market for over 80 years and remains one of the best selling products. So to me it’s the consumers feedback that counts more . Of course I personally have experienced a great result with this product. It is moderately hydrating for my skin type, and best of all it soothes and calms my skin and does a wonderful job for regulating oils and improving clarity. I reach for this product religiously whenever my skin feels sensitive or suffering from breakouts.

From the negative reviews I have read, this product doesn’t fade pigmentation and diminish the appearance of wrinkles. I agree, however it is not a miracle anti aging product that will turn back the clock. I was told it is best to start using this product from the age of 25 as it preserves the current state of your skin and delays the aging process. I started using this when I was 20 and I have not seen any visible signs of aging on my skin yet.

SUISSE PROGRAMME Cellular Boosting Solution (130ml)

Obviously it is a swiss brand and this is one of the best selling products. I expected a lot from this product as it’s been receiving rave reviews.

A little overview on this brand and the product:

SUISSE PROGRAMME Celluar Skin Care is a highly effective skin treatment program resulting from the reputable Swiss cosmetic traditions. It has developed an exclusive Biodynmaic Celluar Complex (BCC) containing active biomolecules capable of acting synergically on the celluar respiration or oxygen consumption within the human cells. The BCC increases the skin regeneration processes and improves skin vitality. This exclusive complex of active ingredients restores skin radiance and reinforces the natural moisturizing action.

SUISSE PROGRAMME Cellular Boosting Solution is a multi-active treatment boosts the transformative effects of daily skincare. It combines the power and effectiveness of three high-tech formulas to help banish signs of skin fatigue and dullness to give you a smooth, radiant and luminous complexion. This high-function solution is designed as a 24 hour effective treatment to counteract signs of premature ageing, preparing the skin to receive and boost the benefits of other skincare treatment.

My Thoughts:

Unlike the SKII Treatment essence, the Suisse Programme Cellular Boosting Solution has a serum consistency. It is very hydrating yet lightweight, feels even more hydrating than my regular serum. Since it comes in a big bottle I apply this liberally every morning and evening, and this sensation is amazing - it makes me feel I am drenched in serum! As the consistency is thicker than the regular toner, it takes about half a minute to completely absorb into the skin. The result is immediate and my complexion appears instantly more even-toned and plumped. I feel I can certainly live without other serums and moisturizers as this product alone keeps my skin hydrated and soft all day long. This product also claims that it boosts the benefits of other skincare treatments. I agree because when I use this product together with my regular serum and moisturizer, I felt my skin is over hydrated! My only gripe with this product is that it contains alcohol.

Bottom Line: The Suisse Programme Cellular Boosting Solution certainly lives up to my expectation. I can’t say which one I prefer more as they are for different needs. The SKII keeps my skin calm and soothed and reduces the breakout to minimum, whereas the Suissie Programme is more potent in terms of hydration and anti-aging but can be too nutritional for younger skin. I will repurchase both of them.

I bought my SKII Treatment Essence at the Singapore airport dutyfree, it was USD$120 for a150ml bottle.

SUISSE PROGRAMME Cellular Boosting Solution (130ml) retails for USD$100. I bought mine from sasa.com

I’ve always wanted to try SKII, but I’m now on the heavy duty Perricone MD RX3 Repair regimen! And, I can’t use any products with alcohol….

Wow your current skincare regime sounds very robust! Perricone is so overpriced in Australia..I am planning to get some from the States :-)

Thanks for a feature on a SUISSE PROGRAMME product! I’ve never even heard of the brand until I walked into SASA this week, but sprang for the “moisture lift mask” at my SA’s insistance/strong recommendation. They say you could apply that product the day after you get skin laser, so it’s very gentle, but on my dehydrated skin I have yet to feel a difference.

Oh god..I really don’t like those SAs at SASA..they always recommend me the wrong product…Thanks for letting me know your thoughts on the moisture lift mask, actually I have been thinking of getting one…

I love SKII although I came to the party very late in life. I didn’t start using the Essence until I was 64, but it has had a wonderful effect on my complexion over the past couple of years and I don’t plan on giving it up any time soon. You’re right in that it is not an anti-aging product in the traditional sense. It doesn’t replace retinol, etc. For that, I turn to my dermatologist for an anti-aging serum which contains prescription strength retinoic acid. Because it makes the skin more sensitive to outside irritants, I look to cosmetic brands for things that are ultra soothing, calming, moisturizing, and nurturing. SKII fits right in with my skin care needs. A scant 1/2 teaspoon on my face, neck, and décolletée every morning and night helps keep my skin feeling smooth, soft, and comfortable while subduing any redness or irritation. Bonus: Although it is not a skin lightening product, my over all complexion has lightened by half a make-up shade probably as a result of it being so calm.

Hi Eileen I am really glad to know SKII works for your skin as well :-) As usual your comments are always so descriptive and spot on. I had forgotten to mention the brightening part :-)

Hi Maria, I personally find that the immediate result of SKII is calming and clarifying. I was told that this product is to preserve the current state of your skin, so it will take years for you to see the real benefits of this essence.

Do you think this could be used as a serum, followed only by a moisturizer? I’m 29 and have oily skin and am afraid using this followed by serum and moisturizer might be too much.

Hi Marta, I assume you meant the Cellular boosting solution? Since you have oily skin (which is like me), you can certainly skip the serum, I find the combination of this essence followed by a light moisturizer supplies sufficient hydration to my skin.

Hi. I was indeed asking about the Cellular Boosting Solution but forgot to mention it. Thank you for replying, I think I’m going to give it a try. Now that the winter is approaching I’m going to need extra hydration.

This is a great comparison review! I honestly haven’t been too keen on SK II products for I tried their sheet mask once several years ago, and my skin got a rash from it. So, ever since SK II has kind of be banned of my interest.

But now after your review, I think I should give it a try! Especially, because you said it’s very soothing and calms down skin, which is totally what my skin needs!

Do you know where I get the best prices for SK II online?

Reika October 21, 2011 at 10:51 am

Hi Jess, I always buy SKII from SASA, the cheapest online retailer I can find :-)

I love your skincare regimen posts, and you turned me on to the REN pore detox mask. I’ve had my eye on SKII for a while. Some reviews I have read say the serum initially gave them breakouts. Did you find that to be true? I’m asking you because it seems like we have similar skin types (oily on the surface, dehydrated on the inside).

Hi Leigh, thank you very much!
Okay..that’s a tough question. SKII essence never breaks me out, on the contrary it reduces the breakout at minimum for me. I have recommended this product to all of my friends. They all loved it except for one of my friends who did have breakouts from using this product.

Thanks for the report, Reika. I think I’ll try a bottle soon. With winter coming, I’m going to need more hydration beneath my everyday moisturizer, in any case. Keep the skincare posts coming!

Hi Reika! I love reading your reviews. May I ask how you apply your SK II to your face? It seems that there are two schools of thought on that–soaking with a cotton puff vs. patting it into your face. Which way do you think is more effective?

Reika October 21, 2011 at 11:03 am

Hi Cindy, that’s a good question! I wish I had thought about it when I was writing the review. On a normal day I pat this product into my skin (50 times). It is an essential step to pat this product in and is even recommended by SKII. When my skin needs an extra boost, I soak this product with a cotton sheet (not puff), then leave it on my face for 10 minutes. I call this the cheaper version of the SKII masks :-)

Thanks Reika (: I’m going to get this from Singapore DFS, where it’s a whole lot cheaper ( a 250ml costs SGD120 vs SGD229 at departmental stores). The price difference for the skin signature cream 80g, is even more astounding (SGD140 at duty free vs SGD 438 in stores) p.s. i live in singapore.

Sorry, the essence costs SGD180 and not SGD120 :)

I can tell you that I have been using Suisse Products for almost two years. My skin never ages, I do not have one wrinkle and I am 73 years old. Prior to that I used Transvital and Sisley. Transvital is made in Italy/Switzerland and Suisse is made in Switzerland, Sisley is a product of Italy.

They do not sell here in the US and you can only get them on SaSa.com. Sisley is sold here in the US. I never ever buy anything other than Suisse or Transvital. My skin is flawless.

Hi Reika, thanks for the skincare product review. I am currently using the Suisse Cellular Boosting Solution and it’s been in my daily regime for almost 2 years, and sincerely I can say I like this product more than SKII. I’ve started using SKII when I was 21 years old and I’ve been partying alot, so at that time SKII did help me in calming my skin needless to say, the best Skin care product that understand what my skin needs and i used it for almost 5 years. Unfortunately, when I start working as a flight stewardess, 3 years back, my skin became very dry as it’s stress level was at it’s peak, and eventually i had lots of breakout on my face, thou I can cover it with foundation, but it still doesnt help to built up my self esteem. The more I used SKII the worst it makes my skin be. Finally, I put it a rest for SKII, and it tooks almost 1 year for my skin to be recovered. Went to SASA, the SA introduce me with Suisse, whereby, it’s almost the same like SKII vitC serum, but after being convinced and the assurance of this Suisse, I thought, why not give it a try.. And now, I’ve no regret using the Suisse, as it really makes my skin feel supple and moist. Im not scared of the high altitude the plane brought me, neither the distance goes, cos I know I’ll be fine, I’m only worried that I’ll forget to pack Suisse in my trolley bag whenever I fly( doesn’t matter how big the bottle is..) :-) )
