Apologies for the lack of posts lately because I have been busy planning my upcoming trip to the States in my spare time! I have always enjoyed my stay in the states from my previous trips – the service was just impeccable compared to Australia. Let’s not talk about the shopping there! Everything seems to be half the price of Australian retail.
Okay I shall contain my excitement a bit! Back to the main topic of this post today. My guy friend just returned from the States and I asked him to bring me back the US version of Chanel Les Ombres in PRELUDE. Knowing that he could make a mistake, I printed out a picture of Prelude and highlighted the name in BOLD and font 20 to him. In the end he still brought me back the Chanel Les 4 Ombres in 18 Kaska Beige..Haha oh well at least he tried…
Nevertheless Kaska Beige is a beautiful neutral palette, which is definitely a staple eyeshadow palette for the neutral lovers.
This is my first US version of Chanel Les 4 Ombres, and just as expected it has a softer and smoother texture and color pay off is much better than the baked version. I haven’t really made up my mind which version I prefer. To me the finish matters the most, and I noticed that the US version is more opaque whereas the baked version is more translucent which gives a really nice sheen when the light reflects on it.
Swatches of Kaska Beige – I like all shades except for the one at bottom right corner as it shows up quite muddy on my skintone.
EOTD:
Upper lid: Applied a very light wash of the top right matte taupe shade all over the eye socket area, then smudged the bottom left plum brown shade along the lash line. I then dabbed the bottom right shade (which I did not like) in the middle.
Lower lid: Applied the top left beige shade at the tear duct area and lined the outer third of the lash line with the bottom left shade.
I did my FOTD with the following products:
Ombres Tissées Iridescent Effects Eyes in Beiges
Chanel Joues Contraste Blushes in ROUGE
Chanel Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in Imaginaire
Last but not least, my falsies are Dolly Wink in 01 Dolly Sweet – gift from the lovely Elaine
Absolutely love them!

haha props to your guy friend for trying
your eyes remind me of bird feathers Rei! so pretty with the dolly wink lashes
Thanks Georgina
Dolly wink makes really beautiful feathery falsies.
oh wow, your swatches are awesome! so awesome that now i need kaska beige in the us-version haha!
i think this looks beautiful on you, perfect for fall!
Yes I agree you need this quad in your life, esp you will appreciate the gold shade more than me
I am going to the states at the start of nov.
Let me know if you need someone to cp you the us-version
Beautiful FOTD
And such a lovely palette too, despite owning what is probably a dozen neutral palettes, I always seem to gravitate towards them again and again. Can never get enough!
Me too, I think I am on a mission to buy all variations of neutral shades..:-P
Hi Reika!
Although I don’t own Kaska Beige, I have swatched it out and it’s on my “to-buy” list! Your friend made a pretty awesome error, it’s a beautiful palette and it looks great on you! I’d be interested to know, in the end, whether you orefer the Baked or Pressed Powder formula better after having used it for a bit.
Just out of curiosity, what is your take on Shu Uemura lashes? I noticed you wear a lot of false lashes with your looks and had maybe tried them. You should do a post all about falsies!
I still haven’t made up my mind. Although the powder formula is more superior in texture and pigmentation, the baked version apply beautifully on top of my nars eyeshadow primer and I really adore the sheen.
As you can tell I love wearing falsies! Would love to do a post if time allows.
For the basic styles, Shu’s lashes are overpriced imo…for one pair of shu, you can get 10 pairs for the same style in other Asian brands.
The entire look is so chic and beautiful!
When it comes to Chanel, US v. European/Asian formulas is a debate that crops up every time Chanel releases something here in the baked formula. It’s not that we are against baked formulas per se. We have lots of baked formulas in the US that are wildly successful, but unlike Chanel’s, they are silky smooth, easy to blend, long wearing, and they have great color payoff; so why can’t Chanel get it right with their baked version which tends to be hard and “dusty”? It is possible to combine all the virtues of the US version with the qualities that are loved in the baked formula. Ah. . . one of life’s many mysteries
In any event, Kaska Beiges look lovely with your coloring. It’s one of those basic quads that I think of as architectural; that is it excels at creating structure and dimension. Prélude does the same only in cool tones.
Hi, Reika. Kaska Beige looks lovely on you! I noticed that you said you were planning a trip to the US–are you going to purchase Prelude at that time? I’m only wondering because I would be curious to know how Prelude looks on you (if you buy it, of course). If you do, I would love to see you post a look with it! I’m currently on the fence as to whether I want to purchase either of the two quads–I’m also fair skinned of Asian decent but with monolid eyes. I thought Kaska Beige was going to be too bold for me–being a monolid, I shy away from bold colors. And when I swatched Prelude, I thought the quad was a bit sheerer overall (and more ideal for me) than Kaska Beige, but Prelude is more cool-toned. Interestingly enough, your sentiments on the golden color on the Kaska Beige quad were my exact sentiments! Golden colors can look muddy on me too–I think it must be our skin tone! People often advise Asians to wear warmer colors like gold, but I really think it depends on how dark you are as an Asian.
Hi Susan I am with you! I much prefer cool neutrals more than the warm colors
I will do a post on prelude as soon as I get it. One thing I forgot to mention is that Kaska Beige (the taupe shade) can look a bit bruisey with my coloring if too much is applied. You might want to try it on your eyes rather than swatching it on your hands before you buy.
Lovely! I must try this at home. However, I think you still need the Prelude palette in your life – it’s such a beautiful cool neutral. One of my favorites
I absolutely adore your blog and follow you on bloglovin
Please keep the excellent posts coming!!

Thank you so much Meredith!
I love Kaska Beige on you!! It is my favorite Chanel quad, but I have Prelude on the way soon so we will see
LOL on the 20pt font for your friend. He was probably terrified at the Chanel counter. Oh, well. Kaska Beige is a standard, and it looks great on you. I also wanted to say how nice Rouge looks on your cheeks. I finally bought it and love the color.
you take really good photos, it really helps

woaaaaaaaaaaaah, this palette looks just amazing, i think it’s prettier than prelude
cant wait until i get to japan
i will definitely check the koji lashes out!
The eyeshadow and the false lashes look great on you !! I always prefer the US version for Chanel eyeshadow, its buttery soft, smooth, and opaque. I own the Regard Perle eyeshadow palette in baked version, and it disappoints me so much, especially the beautiful green one. I think the lighter shades in baked version are ok, since they gives you very nice sheen ( like Asian eyeshadows), but the darker shades are too sheer and dull
That palette looks amazing!! I want that.

Beautiful look! I didn’t think I needed this but your post is giving me second thoughts
The palette looks beautiful on you! I always wanted the US version of Chanel 4 Les Ombres. Lucky you that you are going to states, you can buy as many as you want :p
Oh my goodness, I am so so SO excited for you on your upcoming US trip!!!! All that shopping at such low prices compared to here!!
I love your FOTD, it looks so soft and youthful. Your blog is one of the reasons why my Chanel lemmings are increasing! Haha.
Ooh, I just got Prelude yesterday (I wasn’t going to get it at first, but then I finally caved). I’ll let you know what I think of it after I get a chance to try it out this weekend!
I actually think Kaska Beige looks really nice on you, and I think that the slight plum undertone is very pretty. I’m also planning to get the Dior Mitzah 5 color palette, which also seems to have a lot of the goldish color you don’t love. Not sure if that’s one you’ll like, but you could check it out if it’s still around when you visit the US.
Beautiful!
Though I am not a fan of Chanel Quad as the ones I had are really chalky
But this palette is very nice on you!
I am glad you like the Dolly Wink Lashes. Looks very natural on you! They looks overly long on me! ><
These colors are really pretty on you.
Kaska Beige looks great on you! Its warmth, along with the other products you chose for your face of the day gives you a nice glow. This quad is one of my favorites.
Dampen the brush slightly before applying the baked shadow. Changes everything.
Thanks! I’ll give it a try
