Chanel 2011 Holiday Collection – Rouge Allure Extrait De Gloss Triomphal and Le Vernis Rouge Carat Reviews and Swatches

October 30, 2011

Along with the Lumiére Sculptée Highlighting Powder, I have also picked up the Rouge Allure Extrait De Gloss in 517 Triomphal and the Chanel le Vernis in Rouge Carat from the Chanel 2011 Holiday Collection, which explains why I am painted in red today.

To be honest I wasn’t that excited about this collection after seeing the testers. There were some lovely lippies in pink, rose and beige, but none of them really stood out for me as I am sooo in love with my Suqqu Creamy Glow lipsticks at the moment, so I would rather buy more Suqqu as the formulation is just perfection. Chanel Rouge Allure Extrait De Gloss in Triomphal was a black horse as it wasn’t on my shopping list initially, but after putting in on my lips there was a ‘wow’ moment. I always adore the formulation of Rouge Allure Extrait De Glosses (reviewed here), and this one is just as good – semi opaque with a watery and translucent finish.

Rouge-Allure-Extrait-De-Gloss-517-triomphalTriomphal is a striking rich red with fuchsia flecks but without grittiness. If you are scared of wearing red lips, Triomphal is a good starting point. The translucency and the moist finish makes it more wearable and youthful looking.

Chanel Le Vernis Rouge Carat is a stunning shimmery red with tons of magenta micro glitters! If you are into Chanel nail polishes, this one should not be missed.

So ladies, what is your must have from the Chanel 2011 Holiday Collection?

These two colors complement each color so well! My pick from the 2011 collection would be Sweet Beige glossimer— I haven’t decided whether I really need it yet because it is a pretty plain color, but I know I would use it a lot!

Thanks Dovey! I liked sweet beige as well, but it’s very very similar to some of my Nars nude lipglosses, so I passed it up..

in my opinion the colors are not unique at all, especially the rouge carat… what do you think?
but these colors look great on you, really. Such a look! i would say it’s perfect for Saint Valentine’s dinner :)

I don’t usually buy Chanel. Out of my price range. But the colors are festive and pretty.

I didn’t get these two from the holiday collection but I am tempted to go back and take a look. The RA extrait de gloss in Fatale is my favorite red, so maybe Triomphal may be worth a look? Btw your eyemakeup looks phenomenal here, what are you wearing? :)
Also I was completely blown away by the Noir Ivoire duo, I know it looks boring but the black is really something else, almost glowey- not shimmery & quite different from anything I own, check it out if you want to.

Hi Lakshmi, you know what, Noir Ivoire Duo looked so plain from the pan that I didn’t even bother to swatch it :P Thanks for the rec, I will definitely check it out next time. Sometimes you can’t judge a book by its cover right?!
Thank you :-) I was playing with three different lunasol quads so my “phenomenal eye makeup” was the outcome of “calculated randomness”. :-P

Hi Reika,

While the Chanel Triomphal and Suqqu Creamy Glow Lipstick KARAKURENAI are different textures, I am still curious which one do you like more…. you look stunning in both. BTW, what are you wearing for your eye makeup?

Thanks
Daisy

Hi Daisy, I still prefer Suqqu creamy glow KARAKURENAI as it’s a true red, whereas Chanel Triomphal leans a little pink to me under some lighting. However the suqqu requires more care for application.
Some random shades from three different lunasol quads, I don’t even remember which shades :-P

I love the lips-nails combo. The color brightens up your skin tone effortlessly! You remind me of Ayaka in the first picture :)

Seriously beautiful look, Reika! The lips and nail combo is to die for!
Oh man, you are making me really impatient to wait for the Chanel Holiday Collection to arrive here! :)

I love the Chanel Extrait De Gloss too, and Triopmphal indeed seems to be a must-have color for me!

Gorgeous eye makeup, would you consider making a tutorial on this specific look? I love it.

Reply

Reika October 31, 2011 at 1:41 pm

Thank you so much Ganda. My eye look was created randomly with three different lunasol quads, if I can re-create the same look successfully I will do a tutorial. Basically I was layering a mix of beige, taupe and charcoal shades.

Looking forward to it! Your makeup is always impeccable and I’d love to learn how you do it. Thanks for considering my request! :-)

You look stunning, Reiko. I adore the subtle eyes with the red lip.

As for the holiday collection, it might be easier to tell you what I didn’t get, ha! I got everything you did, plus the Noir-Ivoire eyeshadow duo and Rouge Allure in Famous. I love to layer Famous with Triomphal; each enhances the other so that the result is an intense yet wearable red lip. You can see photos of the combo on my blog if you scroll down a bit.

Hi Leigh, the SA also recommended to to layer Famous with Triomphal! That combo looked absolutely stunning on you :-)

I have to agree with you, upon first glance I wasn’t thrilled with the collection, but I found a few favorites here and there.

I bought Rouge Carat and Sweet Beige immediately, and I’m thinking about getting Sparkle d’Or, the gold liquid liner, and one of the red RA Extrait de Gloss. I need to try on Triomphal and see how it looks on me– totally agree it seems like an easy introduction to a full red lip! I still haven’t opened the D&G red lipstick I bought almost 2 months ago b/c I’m scared to wear it ^_^
