Burberry Spring 2012 – Sheer Eye Shadow Pale Barley Review and Swatch

March 13, 2012

I finally jumped on the Burberry Beauty bandwagon! I have been good saying no to the permanent lineup but after seeing the beautiful Burberry Spring 2012 colletion, I couldn’t help but purchase some including the Sheer Eye Shadow in Pale Barley No 22 as they were limited edition.

The Burberry eye shadow totally lived up to my expectation. The texture has a “wow” factor to me considering I have quite a fair share of premium eye shadows, but I was still deeply impressed by how good the Burberry eyeshadow is. The word sheer in the name is quite misleading, as I don’t find it to be sheer at all for a neutral shade such as the Pale Barley. It is a pale mushroomy beige shade in a satiny finish that serves an excellent base color for most complexions. It applies completely fuss-free – one to two swipes are suffice to show the true color, and the ultra-fine silk smooth texture applies like a second skin without any fallout.

Swatches of Pale Barley

Overall Look:

For the minimalist girls who don’t wear much makeup, it is the perfect shade for a “no makeup” makeup look. LOVE it!

The Burberry Pale Barley Eye Shadow is available online here or here. Non-US customers can purchase this here with international shipping and VAT deductions.

2 weeks ago, I bought some burberry products and I am very impressed! I also was tempted by the soring collection, the bluhsers feel so smooth, the lipcolours look so natural and the e/s are smooth and silky. I agree, they are quite opaque, for called beeing sheer. but that’s a good thing for me. I love your lipstick here, you look amazing <3

Hello Reika,
do you know how different / similar this eyeshadow is in comparison of NAKED LUNCH or SHROOM by MAC ? It looks very similar, is it really ?
I’ve read so many good comments on Burberry’s make up, I think I’ll give them a try soon.
Have you tried their primer/base “Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base” (only in one colour I think) ???
Thanks in advance !

Reika March 15, 2012 at 1:03 pm

Hi dear they are quite different. Naked lunch and shroom are champagne beige, whereas pale barley is a mushroomy beige with a tinge of gold under certain lighting.
You should, Burberry makeup is too divine! And I have yet to try their primer.

Hi Reika, Thanks for the reply. I’m sure I’ll try it very soon ;-)

This is definitely a shade that no girl should miss in her collection! I’m a sucker for these neutral, barely-there’ shades that adds just a bit of color to the eyes.

Should I add this eyeshadow to my ‘never-emding-wishlist’? ;)

Hehe you definitely should. My wishlist never ends as well, so it doesn’t hurt to add a few more items in *wink*, we will get through them one day!

Hey Reika! Aren’t the Burberry products lovely: the quality is excellent and there’s so much heft to the packaging it really feels like a luxury item! It has quickly become one of my favorite brands for everything from foundation & concealer to lipgloss, eyeshadows & blush. My top recommendations would be: eyeshadows in Midnight Brown (one of my fave all over warm brown/taupe goodness shades!), Taupe brown ( my HG matte crease color to pair with my shimmery ETK shadows) and blush in Tangerine, lipgloss in Cameo Pink and Blush. I would add Rosewood eyeshadow to this list but I just got it and haven’t worn it yet! Enjoy shopping! :)

Hi Reika,

Thanks for your review, I was on the fence about this shade but I think I can safely pass on this. It will be too light for my colouring :)

I think all the colours in the range has a luminous quality that’s just incredible. I will now stop writing novels on your comments section!! :3

I always appreciate your comment Cindy! Sorry I didn’t get a chance to reply your previous comment about my skincare routine, I was thinking about doing a few review posts on the skincare products I have been using lately :-)

I was almost about to get this one… Seriously, I need to stop buying all the same colour shades. But I do agree, Burberry eyeshadows are so divine. I have about 7 of them and I can’t get enough of them. I want to buy them all!

Reika March 15, 2012 at 1:21 pm

Hi Reika, love your blog! Where can I buy Bulberry cosmetic? Can you also advise which toner do you use in the morning? Thx!

Reika March 18, 2012 at 12:37 pm

Hi Apple, you can buy burberry cosmetics at selected David Jones. I am using SKII facial treatment essence, or Kiehls’s cucumber toner.

I went to swatch it last night after reading your post. Still contemplating between Pale Barley and Rosewood…

Pale Barley looks lovely in the look you created. This shade looks like a great basic to have :) I don’t have a Burberry counter near me so always have to rely on online swatches and reviews to figure out whether to buy or not. Thanks for the very helpful review!
