Addiction Jean-Michel Basquit Summer 2013 Collection – Sugar Rusk Eye Palette Review and Swatches

June 4, 2013

If you are into Japanese makeup, then ADDICTION Jean-Michel Basquit Summer 2013 Collection is the one to watch!  In fact this collection has done so well that many of their products have already been sold out within days of release. The collection includes six new eye shadow quads that were inspired by the late American graffiti artist Jean-Michel Basquit. There are 2 limited edition colors – Soda Lunch and Black or White. The rest of the quads will be included in the permanent lineup. As usual, I bought a neutral quad – Sugar Rusk which is their best selling color. Unfortunately all the limited-edition cases with his designs were all sold out within days so I had to get the regular case from their permanent line.

In my opinion, the promo pictures didn’t do the justice for any of the quads as the colors looked a little bland. The actual eye shadows are just so much more interesting and complex in real life. Sugar Rusk leans cool neutral with a hint of mauve undertone. There are 3 shimmery shades, and 1 matte shade. All eye shadows are of typical premium Japanese eye shadows – they are extremely finely milled, buttery soft with a velvety and slightly moist touch to them. Pigmentation is also fairly rich, particularly the shimmery brown shade on the bottom right which feels so luxurious and divine to use.

Shades description:

– Top Right: vanilla white shimmer

– Top Left: irridescent pale golden brown with silver shimmer

– Bottom Right: shimmering taupe dark brown with a mauve undertone

–  Bottom Left: matte clay brown

I pulled out a few quads from my stash for comparison.

Clockwise: Lunasol Chocolate Cosmo, Addiction Sugar Rusk, Chanel Raffinement, Tom Ford Golden Mink (reviewed here)

Same here! I wanted to get soda lunch but they are sold out so fast… and I got my 03 sugar rusk in the regular casing (boo for missing the boat for the LE case design)…. LE is such a nice word to cause the stir in the beauty-addict’s world!

I bought Sugar Rusk too. I am lucky that some orders were cancelled hence I got it in the LE packaging. It’s so lovely even my camera couldn’t capture the subtle mirco shimmers. 🙂

Oh..aren’t you lucky Elaine! I was very disappointed that I couldn’t get the LE case….Absolutely agree with you, you have to see the micro shimmers in real life to understand the beauty of this palette!

That’s a beautiful palette Reika! I have Mudd Club on its way to me, I was thinking about Sugar Rusk but wasn’t so sure. Your swatches look amazing and I think I will get it. I have to say, Chanel Raffinement looks amazing as well. Ah, so many pretty palettes and I am not a neutrals collector at all >.<

Somehow, “gorgeous” doesn’t seem to do justice to this palette, but that’s all I got 😛 Seriously though, that matte shade looks insanely stunning–it just looks SO rich and so so smooth! Addiction has been on my list of brands I’m dying to try for a while. I wish it were more easily available though–the reason I haven’t yet tried anything is because of the CRAZY mark-up on the sites that carry it :/

Another to-die-for palette by Addiction! Since I live in the US, Addiction is a very expensive addiction, indeed, but the quality of the shadows is superb. Thank you for the comparison swatches. Since I already have the Tom Ford and Chanel palettes, seeing the comparisons was very helpful. I’ll have to find out when my friend will be going to Japan again 🙂

Beautiful palette! Where can I buy it from?

Reika June 23, 2013 at 4:02 am

Hi Linda, this brand is only sold in Japan atm. You can get them via mihokoshop or ichibankao but these shops charge a higher price.

Thank you for not making the swatches extra heavy. Those can be really deceiving.

Thank you ra 🙂 I like to make my swatches more wearable, just like the way I apply them on my eyes!
