March 2011

This week I have been wearing Dior Nirvana on my nails from Dior Rock Your Nails Collection. Out of the entire collection the color of Nirvana caught my attention the most; it appears as a turquoise-green from the bottle, a unique shade I haven’t yet had in my nail polishes collection.

Formulation of Dior nail polish is second to none – 2 coats give you a flawless and smoothest cream finish.

It lasted a week on my nails without a single chip. The picture below is Nirvana on my nails on the 7th day. Compare to the swatch above, I think this one is more of an accurate swatch of Nirvana. It is more of a green color than turquoise.

I am loving the Chanel Coco Rouge Shine lipsticks so much, so I bought two more today. My collection of Chanel Coco Rouge Shine is completed, at least for now.

I have already  reviewed 45 Evasion; 56 Chance and 54 Boy in my previous post.

The new ones I bought today are:

* 46 Liberte

* 57 Aventure

46 Liberte is a beautiful coral shade which would look flattering on almost every complexion!

chanel-rouge-coco-shine-aventure-swatchMy latest thoughts on the Chanel Coco Rouge Shine lipsticks since my previous post have not changed.  I have also noticed these lipsticks make my lips appear so moist and plumped, considering I have very dry lips to begin with these days. It melts in to my lips rather than sitting on top of my lips, totally camouflaging the appearance of my dry lips.

Lastly, Chanel Coco Rouge Shine lipstick retails for AUD$50 in Australia.

The wait is finally over!! I have finally got my hands on the new Chanel Coco Rouge Shine Lipsticks. They are absolutely  amazing – actually I am so smitten by every single shade from this new collection. However I only had 10 minutes to shop before the shop closed, so I quickly grabbed the most alluring shades for  me. It turns out, according the Chanel manager who served me today, they are the most popular and best selling shades!!

The shades I got are

* 54 Boy!!

* 56 Chance

* 48 Evasion

I have to say you will not understand the beauty of this shade unless you try it on your lips! It is the most beautiful ‘your lips but better’ shade.

My final thoughts: I am totally  blown away by this new range and I will definitely be getting more of them. The texture of Rouge Coco is far more superior than the Aqualumiere which I dislike. It has this lip balm texture, goes on really smoothly and feels extremely soft and light on the lips. They all have a very nice glossy sheen finish.

The overall look with Chanel Boy  (btw I just bought the cutest “magic hair clip” which I want to show you all..haha)

NARS Kalahari FOTD

March 13, 2011

I went to a boat party on Saturday night and this is the makeup I wore. I like to wear false eyelashes to parties just to add a touch of glamorous effect to my makeup. I normally go for neutral eye shadows to balance the dramatic effect of false eyelashes so I don’t end up looking like a drag queen.

I have no willpower whatsoever when it comes to ‘sold out’ or ‘only a few left’ products. When the pictures of mac wonder woman became available online before they hit the counter, my initial reaction was ‘aw..they are ugly..I would never buy these’. Yes I am the type of person who judges the book by its cover…

As I walked by a MAC counter a week ago, the word ‘sold-out’ immediately caught my eye.  It was the Mighty Aphrodite blush from Mac Wonder Woman Collection. I quickly snatched the tester and rubbed it on to my cheeks impatiently… then my heart stopped.. for a few seconds. It was surreal, the blush looked 10 times more beautiful when applied than it does in the pan. I spent a week to finally locate a store that still has the blush and finally received it today.

Packaging wise..it cannot be any uglier..

mac-wonder-woman-mighty-aphrodite-blush

Once you open it, it is a 2 tone blush which is rather appealing. The lighter side is more of a coral/peach color with shimmer, and the dark side is in between pink and red.

On my face: For picture purpose I applied more blush than I would normally use. I have to say I really really like how it looks on my face! I applied the hot pink shade onto the center of my apples, then I swept the lighter shade across my cheeks.

Have you bought anything from Mac Wonder Woman? What is your favorite product? Anything else I should be checking out?

Best Eyelash Curlers

March 9, 2011

When it comes to eyelash curlers,  I tend to gravitate towards Asian brands as they are designed for asian eyes. The most well known is the legendary Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler , which I absolutely adore. I have had this one for 10 years and it still works as good as it was brand new.

My other favorite includes the Shiseido Eyelash Curler. Both Shu and Shiseido’s eyelash curlers are very identical – I can’t tell the differences in my lashes between the two of them.  They have very identical curvature – I can get them really close to the roots of my lashes and they never pinch my eyelids. They also apply the perfect amount of pressure by gently pressing them, giving a nice smooth curled look without crimping your lashes.

Recently I have discovered an amazing eyelash curler, which I hate to admit but it truly blows my other favorites out of the water.

It is the Koji  Curving Eyelash Curler. According to Koji, they have tested this on thousands of Japanese women and came up with a unique curvature that is suitable for every shape of eyes.

koji-eyelash-curler-1

The width of Koji eyelash curler is 38mm, so comparing Koji with Shu, the Koji eyelash curler is much wider and more curved. It gets all my lashes without pinching my eyelid.

If you compare the curvature from this angle, the Koji one is flatter than Shu’s.

So what makes Koji more superior than the rest? The picture below is the best illustration, with its unique shape, it spreads your lashes out to 120 degrees which gives it a more fanned look.

Have you tried Koji? Which brand is your favorite?

Neon color is making a huuuge come back this season. If you don’t dare to wear neon lips, why not to show it off on your nails! This week I am wearing Knockout Pout by Essie from its summer 2010 collection.  This pink is literally breathtaking.

I went to Dior beauty counter today and picked up a few goodies. One of them is the Dior Serum De Rouge in Pink Coral from the Dior 2011 Spring Collection. Out of the entire collection, this lipstick caught my attention the most . When I applied it on my lips, it looks even better on my lips than it does in the tube. If you are as obsessed with makeup as I am, you would know it was one of those  ‘she is the one’ moment.

It may look shockingly red in the tube, but it applies sheer on the lips.

Swatch on my hand:

I would describe this color on my pigmented lips as milky pink. It is very rare to find a milky pink lip shade that is flattering on my skin tone and doesn’t wash me out.

The texture of Rouge de Serum lip color is beyond amazing. It melts on to my lips and leaves my lips looking moisturized, soft and plumped. According to Dior, it can be doubled as a serum for lips, after a reasonable time your lips will be more moisturized, smoothed and firmer.
